Class Descriptions

Major Suit Raises over interference

Monday, August 17, 2020 at 1:00 PM

Level: Novice

Your partner opens 1 of a major and you have support. But your right-hand opponent intervenes! What to do? In this class, we'll look at the methods available to you for raising partner's major suit after interference.

Responding to 1NT over interference

Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 10:30 AM

Level: Intermediate

When partner opens the bidding in 3rd or 4th seat, how do you know if she has opened light? The Drury convention is an effective way to find out.

Safety Plays

Monday, August 24, 2020 at 1:00 PM

Level: Advanced

With the team play season approaching, I thought I would take a look at safety plays. These are plays where you give up a potential overtrick to increase the chances of making your contract. NOTE: Most safety plays are not appropriate for matchpoint duplicate play. This topic is intended for TEAM play. If you never play team games, I suggest that this class is probably not for you.

Responding to 1m

Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 10:30 AM

Level: Novice

We'll look at the basic of responding to your partner's opening bid of 1 of a minor suit.

Responding to 1X over an Overcall

Monday, August 31, 2020 at 1:00 PM

Level: Novice

When your partner opens 1 of a suit and your right-hand opponent interferes, your options change. In this class, we'll look at the techniques for responding to partner over an overcall.

Support Doubles

Thursday, September 03, 2020 at 10:30 AM

Level: Intermediate

A support double is a useful convention for showing 3-card support for partner's suit in a competitive auction. In this class, we'll look at what it is and what it promises.

Help Suit Game Tries and Preemptive Reraises

Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 10:30 AM

Level: Intermediate

The usual 1M - 2M - 3M game try that we teach beginners is not the optimal way of inviting game. In this class, we'll look at a popular alternative -- trial suit bids, specifically, the Help Suit game try. When adopting this agreement, we can then replace the 3M bid with a "Preemptive Reraise". We'll look at that, too.

"Four-on-One" Shuffle and Deal

This class is a one-hour supervised play (AKA "Shuffle and Deal"). It's a little different from face-to-face Shuffle and Deal games in that you will not be sharing me with a lot of other tables. There is only one table in play, so you have exclusive access to me during play. I will answer questions as they come up, and can also critique your bidding and play and talk about the deal after it's played if warranted.

SIGNUP INSTRUCTIONS
Because of high demand and the difficulties in scheduling, I will no longer accept signups from solo players or pairs. My apologies, but the process is just too difficult trying to mesh everyone together. Please sign up as a group of four.
